Slow Living Essential - Month 1

I was reading through my blog roll today and found this inspring post from http://slowlivingessentials.blogspot.com.au/ it is another way of looking back over the past month and seeing how you have progressed towards achieving goals and then sharing with other like minded people.

Now I am only very early into this new lifestyle of living a more simplier life and changing the way we do things, but this participating in this will only help keep me focused and inspired by others to continue to make the changes.  So here goes:

NOURISH:- We are still challenging ourselves with making and baking from scratch however this month (Jan) I have made pasta a few times, with the machine I got for Christmas.  We have all discovered the homemade pasta is delicious and I also think it is very theraputic, kneading and rolling the dough.  The simple recipes I used was a Jamie Oliver one: - http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/pasta-recipes/a-basic-recipe-for-fresh-egg-pasta

PREPARE:- (Stockpile and Preserves) Hmm this is one category that I haven't added to this month.  I have read a fair bit about stockpiling over the years and am planning on establishing and adding to a stockpile.  This is definetly something I can work towards next month.

REDUCE:- I made soap into body wash this month and was able to reuse two bottles from my recyling to do so.  I have refused unneccesary plastic bags as shops when only purchasing a small number of items.  I am reducing eletricity and for the 25 days we recorded our electricity usaeage in Jan we average 13.7 Kw per day.

GREEN:- I research a green way to clean my windows, so simple, so easy and what a brilliant result.

GROW:- One that I can easily fill in, this month we established our vegetable garden and we are have growing at the moment, corn, pumpkin, squash, gerhkins, cucumber, beetroot, beans, raddish and lettuce.

CREATE:- Nothing to exciting here, could I included that fact that I created a vegetable garden plan using a great website http://www.growveg.com/gardenplanner/gardenplanner.html .  I also created a medication chart for my boys.  I also created a website for my Year 9 Maths class.

DISCOVER: I am reading text books for uni, I am studying my Graduate Certificate in Learning Disabilities and am currently reading - Your Going to Love This Kid, its about austistic children in school.  Intersteing stuff.  I am still discovery several blogs that I am reading which I am finding very inspriational - these are listed in my blog roll.

ENHANCE: This month I volunteered at the Brisbane International Tennis Tournament as an Usher working there for 8 days.  With my boys they did a photo shoot for Big W for their Big Hearts for Sick Kids Fundraiser trying to raise money for all kinds of sick kids.

ENJOY: My boys were in hospital for two weeks this month and we made sure that as a family we enjoyed our time together.  It was the first time they had been admitted at the same time. My mum had her birthday and I dedicated a blog post to how much she means to us all.  I also enjoyed hearing about Aidan first half day at Kindy and Jordans first day of year 7.

What a nice way to sum up the month.  I am looking forward to how I can improve on this for next months post.

The range of vegetables you have growing in your garden already is impressive! Enjoy the gardening and pasta kneading :-)
